About the Farm

You can visit our Contact Us page to send us a message. We are also available by chat throughout the week.

Because we are a working farm, we do not have public tours available at this time. You can visit us during the season when our Farm Market is open. It is located on the original Jones’ farm in Huron, OH.

We are not a certified organic farm. However, we employ very beneficial farming practices on our Farm that are not required to be "certified." One is our farming philosophy of Regenerative Farming. We are focused on continually making our soil healthier than we found it. For years, we've rotated our field plantings between produce crops and multispecies cover crops. The cover crops are not grown to be consumed, but to feed, protect, and enrich the soil. They use photosynthesis to produce simple sugars, 50% of which are secreted through the plant roots to build biodiversity in the soil. Beneficial microbes in soil feed on the sugar from the plant roots and convert naturally occurring legacy minerals in the ground into a form usable by plants. When the legacy minerals are available for our plants' use, the amount of fertilizer needing to be added is minimized. In addition, the healthy soil better retains water and minerals, drastically decreasing runoff into the watershed. The end result is: healthy soil, healthy vegetables, and a healthy Earth! Another reason we are not certified organic is we will not use some of the materials currently allowed under Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) guidelines. For example, one OMRI-approved fertilizer is soft rock phosphate (SRP), a highly available mined source of phosphorus. In addition to being a source of phosphorus, we have found through lab testing that it contains a very high concentration of heavy metals that ride the phosphorus into plants when SRP is used. For this reason, we refuse to use this fertilizer on our vegetables, although the Organic Materials Review Institute allows it to be used on certified organic farms.

The Farm has always maintained a stringent food safety program. Our practices include 54 standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food safety related to growing practices and 58 SOPs guiding our packing facility. We conduct pre-harvest testing for pathogens and PCR testing of the water used to wash produce. We also have a traceability program for all products from seed to delivery. With the current COVID-19 crisis, we have doubled down on our commitment to safety by installing an innovative air purification system by Extreme Microbial Technologies and increasing our daily cleaning cycles to three cleanings per day - morning, noon, and end of day. We are doing everything we can to protect our employees and our customers.

The Chef’s Garden was created over 30 years ago and was geared towards Professional Chefs. A few years ago, we created a new home delivery branch called Farmer Jones Farm that allows home cooks the same access to quality products in curated boxes.

Shipping & Delivery

We ship directly to Home Cooks across the United States. At this time, we do not deliver to PO Box addresses.

In order to ensure our customers receive the freshest vegetables and herbs, delivery day can vary depending on the day of the week the order is placed and the destination. Please see our delivery schedule in the Shipping section.

Because of the perishable nature of our offerings, we utilize overnight shipping. At this time, we are not able to deliver to PO Box addresses. All orders are packed in a recyclable cardboard box and are lined with a reusable liner and it includes ice packs or heat packs depending on the weather.

On the day of delivery, you will receive a tracking email that will be sent to the email address associated with your account. At this time, we are utilizing UPS overnight for our Home Delivery shipping needs.

Because of our tough food safety standards, your vegetables are still safe to eat if they are delivered late and the ice pack has melted. If you have any product concerns, please contact us

We want you to be delighted with the vegetables in your box! If you have any questions or issues, please message us on the "Contact Us" page.
